Bitcoin for Beginners
Bitcoin for Beginners is a subreddit for new users to ask Bitcoin related questions. **Do not respond to strangers direct messaging you, as over 99% of these people are Scammers.** This subreddit allows open discussion where peer review occurs. /BitcoinBeginners is not for posting new websites, memes, faucets, affiliate links, news, concern trolling, blog articles, or promoting altcoins and ICOs. **Bitcoin related Questions only** No url shorteners (auto spam)
This forum for posting things which you feel need to be exposed about Bitcoin, but which moderators of the mainline Bitcoin subs (/btc and /Bitcoin) would not necessarily find suitably welcoming on their front pages (perhaps because they are harsh truths, or require deeper background and could alienate newcomers from the subs).
Going to Greece, any ideas on how/where to use Bitcoin?
So I'm headed to Thessaloniki on a business/academia/personal trip. I already payed for my congress registration using Bitwala (great service so far, let's see how the congress admins react to a receipt that says 'Bitcoin'). I've read about Bitchain's ATMs and some restaurants taking BTC, but do not know if this is just crypto news overhyping reality, or plain true. tl;dr: I'm wondering if anyone that has recently been, or has used BTC in Greece can give me some advice.
Is there an updated list of where to use bitcoins online?
I just found out that foodify accepts bitcoins which is awesome because i use seemless all the time (but now I can use bitcoins instead of us $), but when I looked for a list of websites that accept it, the only info I found was from 2013. I know about the big headlines, but i want to start transacting more and am looking where to utilize it
I have been playing on a bitcoin poker site and winning a bunch of freerolls so I have a few bits or whatever a few dollars is worth.. Just got to Vegas a few days ago and I'm just curious what all you can do here with Bitcoin. Is there a site one can go to that lists all local vendors accepting bitcoin or anything?
Bitcoin has gone from 100% dominance to 56.67%, where it is today. The truth is: no matter what "dominance chart" one uses, Bitcoin dominance started at 100% and has been trending down on a lifetime time span. On a macro scale, Bitcoin dominance is reaching lower and lower highs.
If governments/politicians are forced to use Bitcoin, isn't that good? since we can track where all the money is going?
Found what my uncle tells me, is that most of the corruption is from the banks and governments, If everyone starts moving to Bitcoin, and eventually governments/politicians/banks are forced to use it, then we can start analyzing where they are spend our tax money and root out corruption that way since the majority of corruption is from them, and not the general public does that make sense>?

''' Unfortunately your location does matter for your exchange (where you buy/sell). Check out bitcoinCA for lots of great info. ShakePay is easy to use, quick to transfer funds to (can use regular Interac e-transfer up to your bank/card daily limit), and signup/verification is pretty fast/painless. Fees why buying/selling BTC can be a little high (1.25-2.25% depending on price volatility) but they charge no other fees - including free xfer to your wallet. Use my link and we will each get $10 when you buy your first $100 of BTC. Newton gets some good reviews as well and is supposed to have lower fees. The verification process with PLAID is a little disconcerting - would suggest avoiding until they implement their new process (supposedly coming soon). ATMs charge VERY high fees (sometimes over 10%) so would strongly suggest avoiding. Make sure you know how to use your wallet BEFORE you make any large purchases. Try some small tests, try restoring your wallet, and make HANDWRITTEN copies of your seed words (and PROTECT them!!!). Move your BTC off your exchange AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Consider and BTC not in your wallet as being at high risk of being lost. An exchange is NOT like a bank!! It may seem a little daunting but once your make a few transactions it is pretty straight forward and you will be ahead of 99% of people!! Shoot me a DM if you have any questions. "Bitcoin is mined using a single manufacturer's hardware, traded using a single stable coin, maintained by a single dev team. Its only smidgeon of decentralisation is Twitter, where an army of assclown bagholders never manages to get its message straight &ends up abusing everyone."
Where are the GPU mining rigs that used to mine Bitcoin?
I wonder what happened to GPU mining rigs when ASICs took over the market and Bitcoin mining on GPUs became unprofitable? Let's discuss ! Also, if you were a bitcoin GPU miner or are mining any other crypto with GPUs today then mention your system specs as well !

So I get a fairly constant stream of people who send me messages about situations where they have sent BCH to a Bitcoin address (Probably 3/4 of the instances of this are when people use address converters) If you didn't send it to a segwit address, recovery is quite straight forward.
